Axial Coverage and Sensitivity in Total Body PET Systems

A Total Body PET (Positron Emission Tomography) System is a medical imaging device with an exceptionally long "Axial Field of View" (up to 2 meters). Unlike traditional PET scanners that cover only 20-25 cm, this system can image the entire human body simultaneously.

The technical advantage is a 40-fold increase in Signal Sensitivity. This allows for "Dynamic Imaging," where the "Kinetics" of a radioactive tracer can be tracked as it moves through the blood-pool and organs in real-time. Because of the high sensitivity, the "Radiation Dose" to the patient can be reduced significantly, or the "Scan Time" can be shortened to less than one minute without sacrificing image resolution.
